Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker 4K Blu-ray to land April 20

Disney has confirmed an April 20th release date for the 4K Blu-ray, 3D Blu-ray and Blu-ray editions of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Coinciding with the release of the saga-closing epic will be 4K disc debuts for Star Wars: The Phantom Menace, Star Wars: Attack of the Clones, Star Wars: Revenge of the Sith, Star Wars: A New Hope, Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, Star Wars: The Force Awakens and Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.

The other films in the long-running franchise – Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Solo: A Star Wars Story – have already been released on 4K Blu.

On its BD releases, Rise of Skywalker will be accompanied by 'over two hours' of extra features, including the Skywalker Legacy feature-length documentary, which goes 'behind the scenes with the cast and filmmakers from Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and explores the legacy of the Skywalker saga.'

Other extras are featurettes covering the creation of the Pasaana desert scenes and speeder chase; creature design/FX; Warwick Davis returning to his Ewok costume; and the droid character D-O.

Audio for the 4K Blu-ray will be Dolby Atmos, but both the Blu-ray and 3D Blu-ray releases only get 7.1. DTS-HD MA mixes.

No word yet on HDR flavours, but we hope Disney will follow its strategy with The Last Jedi and include a Dolby Vision grade.
