Audiovector revamps QR series loudspeakers in Special Edition guise

Coming to UK dealers via distributor Renaissance Audio is the QR SE series from Danish speaker manufacturer Audiovector. The new line, which ranges below the brand's high-end R Series, includes floorstander, standmount, centre channel, on-wall and subwoofer models, so suits both home cinema and hi-fi shoppers.

For this 'Special Edition' revamp, Audiovector has made improvements across the board, including to the crossover networks, bass reflex optimisation, power handling and driver damping, while a tweaked aesthetic now includes gold-brass badging on grilles and baffles. All models are dressed in real wood veneers and offered in White Silk, Dark Walnut and Black Piano colourways.

Golden highs
The biggest of Audiovector's new bunch is the QR 7 SE floorstander (£5,300), a three-way design with two 8in 'Pure Piston Technology' bass drivers, dedicated 6in midrange and 'Gold Leaf' AMT tweeter framed by an aluminium/tungsten wave guide. Audiovector says this HF unit benefits from cryogenically treated pure copper wiring and custom damping material to give a 'smooth and natural' performance.

Elsewhere in the lineup, 6in bass drivers are preferred, resulting in the slimmer £3,850 QR 5 SE and £2,400 QR 3 SE tower speakers – the former of those employing two of them – and £1,350 QR 1 SE standmount.

Meanwhile, AV system builders can mix and match these models with the QR C SE centre (£1,050) and QR Sub SE, a 10in/350W-rated subwoofer priced £1,450. And for discreet installs, Audiovector's QR Wall SE on-wall speakers feature a slim 9.5cm-deep enclosure and the option of running in either 'direct' mode – with just the AMT tweeter and 5in bass/mid in play – or 'diffuse' mode where two out-of-phase dome tweeters kick in.
