Sound United confirms acquisition of Bowers & Wilkins
The move, which will see B&W join Denon, Marantz, Polk Audio, Definitive Technology and Classe under the Sound United umbrella, isn't a complete surprise – back in July Sound United revealed its intention to snap up the audiophile marque.
'Acquiring Bowers & Wilkins combines its industry-leading acoustic design, engineering and manufacturing expertise in the premium category with Sound United’s scale, technical acumen and consumer reach to ensure Bowers & Wilkins thrives moving forward,' said Kevin Duffy, Sound United's CEO. He added the company had a 'strong track record' of protecting each of its brands’ identities.
'We believe the entire portfolio stands to benefit from the addition of Bowers & Wilkins.'
B&W CEO Geoff Edwards will remain with the company, and become 'President of the Bowers & Wilkins brand.'
'This acquisition represents a new era for Bowers & Wilkins and offers a fresh opportunity to focus on what we do best: building the industry’s finest loudspeakers,' said Edwards.
Sound United previously bought Classe in 2018. In the same year a proposed deal to acquire the home audio divisions of Onkyo and Pioneer fell through.
Bowers & Wilkins began making loudspeakers in 1966. Its current lineup includes the 800 Series Diamond, 700 Series and 600 Series speakers, Formation Suite of multiroom speakers/electronics, custom install speakers, DB subwoofers, and headphones.
Home Cinema Choice #351 is on sale now, featuring: Samsung S95D flagship OLED TV; Ascendo loudspeakers; Pioneer VSA-LX805 AV receiver; UST projector roundup; 2024’s summer movies; Conan 4K; and more
