Sony sets price on flagship XG95 4K HDR TVs

Sony has announced pricing for the 55in, 65in and 75in versions of its XG95 flagship LED TV lineup, although it remains tight-lipped when it comes to the monster 85in model.

The 55in KD-55XG9505 is launching at £1,900, while the 65in KD-65XG9505 will sell for £2,500 and the 75in KD-75XG9505 costs £4,000. The sets are expected to arrive at retailers in early March.

The XG95 Series TVs are 4K HDR models with full array LED backlighting, with 'multiple zones' combining with the brand's X-tended Dynamic Range PRO local dimming technology to fine-tune contrast and brightness delivery. Image processing is handled by Sony's X1 Ultimate processor.

Boosting the sets' appeal in a home cinema environment is the promise of an IMAX Enhanced mode via a future firmware update – Sony remains the only confirmed display partner for IMAX Enhanced in the UK. Sony Pictures is prepping movies for IMAX Enhanced streaming via the Rakuten VOD service later this year.

When it comes to HDR, Sony continues to support Dolby Vision while giving its dynamic metadata rival HDR10+ a swerve. Additionally, the XG95 TVs offer Dolby Atmos decoding.

Sony promises improved off-axis viewing through the XG95 Series' X-Wide Angle light-controlling engine (although says this only features in the 75in and 85in models).

Other features shared across the models include Acoustic Multi-Audio tech (which adds rear-positioned tweeter drivers to a quartet of front-facing units to lock sound to the screen centre); Android smarts (including Google Assistant integration); and Apple Airplay 2 and Home Kit compatibility.
