Sharpe's Peril Blu-ray review

Sean Bean has to deal with some chuffin' opium smugglers

Picking up where Sharpe's Challenge left off, this 2008 outing finds Sharpe and his colleague Harper on the way back to Madras. Coming to the aid of an East India Company baggage train the soldiers soon find themselves caught up in a very familiar plot involving nasty soldiers and opium smuggling.

It's all fairly predictable stuff, and while the locations are sumptuous you get the feeling that many of the cast just don't have their heart in it any more. Unlike Sharpe's Challenge, Sharpe's Peril comes to Blu-ray with a AVC 1.78:1 1080i encode and is presented in both its original two-part 137min and international 102min edits. However, it does get an upgrade in the audio department with a lossless DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 soundtrack. Extras are limited to a 24min Making of... featurette and a photo gallery.
