Philips adds Apple TV+ streaming to its Android smart TVs

Philips yesterday added the Apple TV app, which includes the Apple TV+ streaming platform, to its Android TV models.

The telly corp says owners of new 2021-era Philips Android sets will find the Apple TV app pre-installed on the Smart TV home screen. Those with earlier models – running Android TV 8 or later – can download the app from the Google Play store, or the Philips Collection app. Owners are advised a software update may be required.

Apple TV gives access to the Apple TV+ platform (home to the company's original movie and series content), plus subscription 'channels' (including StarzPlay, Shudder, MUBI and BFIPlayer), and pay-per-view movie/TV content.

An Apple TV+ subscription is currently £4.99 per month, with a seven-day free trial.

Says Martijn Smelt of Philips parent company TP Vision: 'I’m delighted that we are now able to add Apple TV+ — one of the very best TV streaming services — to our Android platform, which, thanks to our award-winning picture processing technology and unique Ambilight system, will offer viewers Apple TV+ content in the highest picture and sound quality.'
