ITV Player added to Amazon Fire TV

Catchup channel graces first-gen box; second-gen and Stick to follow

Telly addicts with a first-gen Amazon Fire TV box can access ITV Player as of today, where it will join existing content options supported by the streaming gizmo including Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, Demand 5 and Curzon Home Cinema.

The ITV Player app will also be available on the new UHD-supporting Amazon Fire TV when it launches on October 5, and the company is promising integration with the Amazon Fire Stick by the end of the month. It will be replaced across all hardware by the incoming ITV Hub (a one-stop shop for all ITV channels and online services) when that makes an appearance later this year.

'We’re delighted to welcome ITV Player to the Fire TV platform and look forward to adding even more partners in the coming weeks and months,' says Jorrit Van der Meulen, Vice President, Amazon Devices EU. ITV, meanwhile, says Amazon's hardware showcases its content 'brilliantly'.

Amazon has also announced that the Fire TV Stick has become the comapny's fastest-selling device ever.

The second-gen Amazon Fire TV – in addition to its UHD streaming talents – claims a faster processor than the original and microSD slot for expanding internal memory among its features, and will sell for £80. You can pre-order one here.
