Denon's announces AVC-X6800H, a new 11-channel Dolby Atmos powerhouse amp
As expected from the brand, the amplifier integrates the HEOS platform for streaming audio and multiroom playback with compatible gear. It also handles the Dolby Atmos, DTS:X and Auro-3D immersive sound formats, and supports IMAX Enhanced.
The headline power rating for the AVC-X6800H is 205W per channel, albeit measured into one channel at 6ohm, 1kHz with 1% THD. More indicative of the amp's real-world grunt will be Denon's 140W (0.05% THD, 20Hz-20kHz, 8ohm, two-channel) figure. The unit, which is manufactured in the company's Japanese facility, uses Denon's discrete, 'monolithic' amplifier design.
Connections include seven HDMI inputs and three outputs, with support for HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, plus variable refresh rates (VRR) and auto low latency mode (ALLM) gaming features. The AVC-X6800H also offers a bevy of further hook-ups, including MM phono, optical/coax digital, and analogue stereo.
Onboard processing is to 13.4 channels (with the help of external amplification) – the corresponding multichannel outputs include four independent subwoofer outs. Denon's configurable pre-amp mode allows amplification to unused onboard channels to be switched off, 'to get a clearer signal path for the channels driven by external amplification.'
Out of the box room calibration is delivered by Audyssey's MultEQ XT32 platform, with the option of deeper control via the paid-for MultEQ Editor app. Alternatively, AVC-X6800H owners can purchase a licence to run Dirac Live Room Correction and Dirac Live Bass Control.
Denon's new amp, available in black or silver finish, will hit UK retailers mid-February.
