Denon unveils special edition AV amplifier to celebrate its 110-year anniversary

Denon has marked its 110th birthday with the launch of a quartet of Anniversary Edition products, including a new flagship home cinema amplifier.

Priced at a cool £5,000, the AVC-A110 offers a state-of-the-art specification and is described as 'one of the most special AV amplifiers Denon has ever produced.'

A 13.2-channel design, it naturally supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X playback, plus IMAX Enhanced and DTS:X Pro. The HDMI specification includes HDMI 2.1 input/output, with eARC, ALLM, VRR and other gaming-friendly features.

Amp power is rated 150W per channel (8 ohm, 20Hz-20kHz, 0.05% THD, two-channel measurement), delivered by a monolithic amplifier design with a 'hefty' 8.2kg high current power transformer.

'The AVC-A110 creates a lifelike cinematic experience,' says Denon – and audio tuning has been performed by the company's Japan HQ 'Sound Master' Yuuki Takahashi. The project name, we're told, was 'Abyss', with Takahashi-san pursuing a 'deep and bottomless' performance.

Employed to help achieve this lofty aim is a slew of exclusive components, including over 250 new elements across the amp's electrical circuits, and 150 mechnical improvements. The amp's DAC board, for instance, features over 100 part changes from that on Denon's previous AVC-X8500H flagship, while copper tracks on the amp's circuit boards are now double-thickness for improved heat dissipation.

The interior of the amp is even now all-black, with 110 Anniversary branding on the transformer.

Like the other models in Denon's celebratory lineup (hi-fi enthusiasts get the PMA-A110 integrated amplifier, DCD-A110 Super Audio CD player and DL-A110 moving coil phono cartridge), the AVC-A110's external styling has been developed by Takeji Suzuki, Industrial Designer for Denon core products.

This means you get a 'limited edition' silver-graphite finish, and a 110 Anniversary logo adorning the front panel. The apple hasn't fallen too far from the tree though – the AVC-A110 very much adheres to Denon's current AV amp/receiver aesthetic.

Denon's AVC-A110, and the rest of the new range, will be available from October. All models are built and QC'd at Denon's Shirakawa, Japan manufacturing plant and will ship with a 'certificate of authenticity stamped with the approval of Denon’s head engineer' and come with a five-year warranty.
