Denon announces new flagship soundbar with 5.1 expandability

Denon has added a new flagship model with HEOS multiroom/streaming to its soundbar range, the £800 DHT-S716H.

Claiming to offer 'the ultimate home theatre experience TVs can’t deliver', the soundbar features a three-channel (L/C/R) configuration utilising nine drivers and Class D amplification. It can be partnered with additional HEOS speakers to create a multichannel system – using Denon's optional DSW-1H dual-driver subwoofer (£600, wireless connection) for extended bass.

Format support includes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio, plus 4K HDR video (including Dolby Vision) over the DHT-S716H's four HDMI inputs and ARC-enabled HDMI output. HDMI's gaming-friendly Auto Low Latency Mode is also on the spec sheet.

Hi-res audio playback via the soundbar's USB port or over a network includes DSD (2.8/5.6MHz), FLAC, WAV and ALAC. HEOS, meanwhile, introduces access to Tidal, Amazon Music, Spotify, Deezer and the TuneIn 'net radio platform.

The DHT-S716H can be wall-mounted via keyhole fixing, or installed on an AV stand. Operation is via a supplied remote (with six user-definable source presets) or through Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant voice control (with an external Amazon Echo or Google Home speaker).

The new soundbar is joined by another model, the slim-line £700 DHT-S516H, which comes supplied with its own subwoofer and again features HEOS integration. There's no multichannel expansion or lossless surround sound decoding here, though, and HDMI connectivity is pared down to HDMI ARC.

The addition of the two new models means Denon's soundbar range is now four-strong, beginning with the entry-level DTS-S316.

Says Denon: 'Optimised with Denon’s century-long legacy of creating great-sounding home theatre and high resolution listening products, the latest soundbars combine 4K HDMI inputs with ARC support for perfect TV connection and operation, class-leading DSP processing, amplification and hi-res capabilities with the ease-of-use and form factor of a soundbar.'
