Cult classic cyberpunk anime Akira to make 4K Blu-ray bow on November 30
Manga Entertainment is bringing the 1988 blockbuster anime Akira to 4K Blu-ray in the UK this November – four weeks ahead of its US release. The Limited Edition set includes the movie on both UHD and BD platters, plus a second Blu-ray disc devoted to extra features.
Akira's 4K disc debut follows its recent re-release in cinemas, based on a new 4K restoration and audio remix. However, the UHD platter won't offer Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio, opting instead for Dolby True HD 5.1 (with a new 24-bit/192kHz Japanese track).
Extra features include storyboards, original theatrical credits, a trailer collection and a 2019 documentary about Akira's innovative sound design and sountrack by Geinoh Yamashirogumi.
The Akira 4K Limited Edition set also ships with a 40-page booklet featuring essays and interviews. Pricing is around £60.
