BenQ announces new iSeries of Android TV projectors for gamers, sports junkies and film fanatics
The 4K DLP TK850i and W2700i, plus the 1080p DLP TH685i, are all based around Google's Android platform, enabling access to live TV streaming, video-on-demand, Chromecast and Apple AirPlay streaming, and app downloads from the Google Play Store.
The models will also feature the brand's proprietary 'child-friendly' FamiLand app, which allows for curated YouTube playlists and parental controls.
'The TK850i, W2700i and TH685i are a new generation of home entertainment projectors, creating largescreen displays of over 75-inches without the need for complex installs,' says BenQ.
The two 4K models are HDR-enabled (HDR10, HLG) and feature BenQ's HDR-PRO dynamic iris/tone-mapping functionality to fine-tune replay. Additional processing comes via the CinemaMaster Video+ engine.
The £1580 BenQ W2700i (pictured, an update on last year's W2700) is targeted at film fans, and supports wide colour 4K content via the brand's CinematicColor tech, which claims 95% coverage of the DCI-P3 space and 100% of REC.709, coupled to a 4K-optimized optical system with 10-element all-glass lens assembly.
Also priced at £1580, but with a home entertainment/sports focus, the TK850i misses out on wide colour playback but features a 'specialised' Sports picture/sound mode. A brightness rating of 3,000 Lumens (compared to the 2,200 Lumens of the W2700i) caters for lights-on viewing.
The TH685i (£760) is designed for gamers, and offers a claimed 8ms response time, 120Hz refresh rate, and HDR support. While 4K playback is off the menu, the PJ will accept 4K content, which is then downsampled to its 1080p resolution.
Home Cinema Choice #351 is on sale now, featuring: Samsung S95D flagship OLED TV; Ascendo loudspeakers; Pioneer VSA-LX805 AV receiver; UST projector roundup; 2024’s summer movies; Conan 4K; and more
