Avengers Assemble on Blu-ray in the UK this September

Superhero spectacular explodes onto Blu-ray with feature-length documentary

Walt Disney Home Entertainment has confirmed that Avengers Assemble will be exploding onto Blu-ray and DVD in the UK on September 17 - one week prior to the US release.

With box office takings now in excess of $1billion, Avengers Assemble is now setting its sights on setting some new records, with Disney claiming that is has already racked up enough sales in three-days of pre-orders to put it on track to become the 'second biggest week one in pre-order sales' ever in the UK.

So far the studio has been fairly tight-lipped about what fans can expect in the way of extra features, but it has teased that 'Blu-ray audiences will be treated to a host of behind-the-scenes insights and all-new footage'.

The 'all-new footage presumably refers to the eight deleted/extended scenes already confirmed for the US release, arriving on September 25. The press release for that version that went out at the end of May also mentions a commentary by Joss Whedon, Second Screen app, Item 47: Marvel One-Shot short film, gag reel, music video and two featurettes (Assembling the Ultimate Team and A Visual Journey).

However, this misses the one feature that Disney has promised for the UK Blu-ray - a 90-minute documentary entitled Building a Dream: Assembling the Avengers. According to the Disney UK, this will include 'never before seen footage from Iron Man as well as fascinating insight from director Joss Whedon and producer Kevin Feige on how they began creating the Marvel Cinematic Universe for what has become on of the most anticipated and talked about movie events in the world'.

Avengers Assemble will be released as both single-disc 2D and double-disc 3D/2D Blu-ray platters, plus a single-disc DVD when it hits these shores on September 17. Disney is also releasing a six-film boxset containing Iron Man, Iron Man 2, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America: The First Avenger and Avengers Assemble on Blu-ray and DVD on the same day.
