A new AV processor from US audiophile marque McIntosh is ready to rock high-end cinema rooms. The MX160 replaces the existing MX151 and flaunts a £14,000 price tag.

While featuring McIntosh’s trademark 1950s-era design, the MX160 sits at the leading edge of home cinema. Spec sheet highlights include 4K upscaling and passthrough with HDCP 2.2 compatibility, Dolby Atmos and Auro-3D support, an 8-in, 4-out HDMI stage and balanced XLR outputs for amplifier connection.

The MX160 can support 11-channel speaker setups and multiple subwoofers. RoomPerfect optimization/EQ is offered to tailor sound to suit the listening environment. The usual roster of digital and analogue audio hookups (supporting 24-bit/192kHz sources) is also present.

Installation-friendly features include HDBaseT connection to a compatible display, input assignment, multichannel phono inputs plus web-based control and setup.
