Sony has confirmed details of its new VPL-HW45ES Full HD projector, which will go on sale in May for around £2,000 and replace the VPL-HW40ES in its SXRD projector stable.

The HW45ES claims a brightness rating of 1,800 Lumens (a slight increase on the 1,700 Lumens of the HW40ES), from a 215W lamp that it suggests can last for up to 6,000 hours.

The projector uses the same chassis as its predecessor (measuring a relatively compact 40(w) x 18(h) x 46(d)cm) and is available in both black and white finishes. Focus and zoom (1.6x) are both manually operated. Vertical and horizontal lens shiift is on hand to improve installation flexibility.

Connectivity runs to twin HDMI inputs, IR and RS-232/remote inputs and a UBS port. The latter allows buyers to 'keep the device’s firmware up-to-date with the latest software releases.' There is, however, no provision of a 12V trigger for automated screen setups.

Running noise of the VPL-HW45ES noise is rated at 22db with ventilation handled by a front-firing exhaust port. Toys to play with include Motionflow to increase moving image detail, while Sony's Reality Creation processing aims to fettle the PJ's Full HD and 3D images to look their very best.

'This cost effective projector fits neatly into any home theatre or living room,' reckons Sony. And judging from some of its lifestyle photography (below), it has Euro 2016 bigscreen parties in its sights.
