Shame

Michael Fassbender wants to tell you a thing or two about his sex life...

These days it seems I can’t spin up a Blu-ray without being confronted by actor Michael Fassbender. It feels like he’s been in at least half of the films released last year. But I’ll keep watching as long as he gives performances like his remarkable central turn in this riveting exploration of sex addition from acclaimed director Steve McQueen.

The film’s low-budget roots show through in the excessively grainy night footage that dominates the disc’s AVC 2.40:1 1080p transfer. The DTS-HD MA 5.1 mix proves surprisingly robust with plenty of use of the surrounds and throbbing bass, particularly during one visit to a particularly seedy underground club. The only real disappointment here stems from the extra features - just two sub-4min interviews with actors Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan, the trailer and a rather more substantial 36-min Q&A with the film's star.
