Godzilla vs. Kong to launch on Premium VOD on April 1

Warner Bros continues to confirm streaming release dates for films from its 2020 and 2021 slate that would normally have played in cinemas.

The latest is Godzilla vs. Kong, the follow-up to both Godzilla: King of the Monsters and Kong: Skull Island, which will hit premium VOD on April 1.

Filming for the blockbuster brawl – directed by Adam Wingard and starring Alexander Skarsgård, Rebecca Hall and the two titular beasts – finished in 2019. A proposed 2020 release date was canned due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Premium VOD route has been adopted by Warner in the UK, while in the US it is streaming titles via the HBO Max platform. Earlier this year, it released Wonder Woman 1984 as a PVOD title, following a blink-and-you'll-miss-it theatrical window in UK cinemas in December (before they all got shut again...).

As with that title, we expect Godzilla vs. Kong to be available to rent via Amazon Prime, Sky Store, Rakuten and others – and to be quickly followed by a 4K Blu-ray release.

Warner Bros. is also releasing the live-action/animated mashup Tom & Jerry on March 25, and recently made Denzel Washington thriller The Little Things available.
