After painstakingly eroding the charm of the first Pirates Of The Caribbean film with three increasingly leaden sequels, Disney here tries to reboot the franchise by pretty much remaking the first one, with a bit of the second thrown in for good measure.

Ridley Scott's 2012 return to the Alien universe is perhaps the ultimate Marmite movie. And as it happens, Team HCC count themselves among the group who love this big-budget blockbuster for its uncompromising combination of visual splendour, philosophical musings and Lovecraftian horror.

This sixth and final instalment to a surprisingly resilient fantasy franchise picks up sometime after Resident Evil: Retribution, and seems determined to end the show with as much chaotic splatter as possible. The plot sees zombie butt-kicker Alice (Milla Jovovich), series returnee Claire Redfield (Ali Larter) and assorted cohorts (but not Jill Valentine) square off for a climactic confrontation with the Umbrella Corporation, in an effort to release an airborne antivirus that could stop the T-Virus dead in its tracks (sic), before the last enclaves of humanity fall to the undead hordes.

Studio rights shenanigans have given us so many Spider-Man films in the past couple of decades that your heart is probably sinking at the thought of watching another one. But by going back to the character's comic book roots and adding Spidey to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Spider-Man: Homecoming does genuinely bring something new to the table.

As far as comic book superheroes go, Spider-Man ranks right up there alongside Superman and Batman when it comes to name recognition. Yet unlike those DC heroes, if you discount theatrically-released re-edits of the '70s TV series, rights issues meant that Marvel's webslinger had to wait until the start of the 21st century to make his bigscreen debut.

It's been 21 years since Trainspotting cemented the reputation of director Danny Boyle and made leading man Ewan McGregor a star. Now we get a sequel, and the lengthy gap between instalments certainly works in its favour – the passage of time giving this eventual reunion of Trainspotting's four major players (Renton, Sick Boy, Spud and Begbie) plenty of narrative scope and tension.

Superb 4K visuals, a class-leading 5.1 mix and an excellent Making of.. documentary make Tenet's UHD Blu-ray release one to snap up – even if the movie isn't Nolan's finest.

It's safe to say 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day caused a stir when it landed in cinemas, flaunting a massive budget and groundbreaking CGI. The resulting audience stampede saw it challenge box office records, cement James Cameron's status as Hollywood royalty and have it crowned by some as that rarest of things – a sequel superior to its forebear.

This quartet of movies (based upon Suzanne Collins' trilogy of books) steamrollered through multiplexes between 2012 and 2015, earned studio Lionsgate a fortune and turned lead actress Jennifer Lawrence into a megastar.
